Stumped on sprinkler flow

Here is my problem. My sprinkler system when we bought our house was working fine. Now all of a sudden one zone doesn't work or rather doesn't respond. I have a rain bird system. What is happening is that when the water at the main vavle is turned on and pressurized, this certain zone automatically runs. The sprinkler heads pop up and operate. Once I turn the water off they go back down and everything is normal. I can't for the life of me think of why this is happening. I have tried everything. I have unhooked the all the wires going to the control panel and the power and the zone still runs with the water source turned on. We bought a new solenoid as a suggestion from a friend saying that was the problem, but it still had the same issue. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

There's something wrong with the valve. It needs repair or replaced.
It depends on what model valve you have and how difficult it is to replace.
Can you post a picture of the valve?
