Identifying old Rainbird valve/replacing solenoid

The solenoid coil on an old Rainbird valve has burned up. I can not identify the valve number or find a replacement coil. The valve is three inches maximum between the holes; I tried a similar looking valve cover, but it's too small. Can one replace just the top half of these old valves? I'd put in pictures, but don't see how to do it!

Yep we need a pic of the valve. Go to www.tinypic.com, upload your pic there then cut and paste the "forum" code to your post. The pic will magically appear.
