Detecting a pump with excess of silt and mud

For detecting a pump with excess of silt and mud, I surveyed from different sources that pressure loss is usually a common evidence. However, it is not always true.
It is costly to disassembly the pump and find out there no slit or mud in it.
So I wonder, is there a friction caused with this excess? and if so, is there a change in temperature of the metallic parts involved, around it or in touch with the area?
