sprinklers and hot water in the house

When the sprinklers come on the hot water to the house is interrupted. I don't know if this is in your expertise, but I have a problem.
The hot water comes back after about 2 or3 minutes.
Thank you Walter

I am just going to open this up a little bit for the forum.
Please give us some more information, Is this a new sprinkler system?
How long have you been experiencing this?
What is your water Source?
Is there a backflow preventer installed on the sprinkler system?
Where is the water connection that supplies the irrigation system?
What city are you located in?

This should be a good start.

The sight-unseen general answer is that the indoor water pressure is dropping drastically when a zone opens, and this sets up a situation where the water heater is temporarily the point of highest pressure in all the house plumbing. This "pressure imbalance" can lead to water flowing backwards from heater to sprinkler system, which is generally connected closer to the water meter. As the zone pressure comes up to a higher point and stabilizes, the hot water can return to normal.

The simple remedy is to run the sprinkler system in the wee hours of the morning when nobody cares about hot water.
