irritrol 2400 trigger lever purpose

First I gotta say what a find Sprinkler Warehouse is! I ordered a bunch of Irritrol valves and they were being handed to me by Fedex practically before I logged off the website! I'm (of course) new to this stuff and I can't find out what are the little trigger levers that indicate off/on next to the solenoid of irritrol 2400 valves?? I haven't installed them yet and I want to be sure I have these set correctly before I plug them in. Thanks for humoring a novice!

those are manual operators - they do what the bleed screw does, but without releasing any water

Those are just directional indicators for on/off.

irrotrol 2400 levers

So - if the lever is in the OFF position, the valve will be commanded by the timer? And when it is in the ON position. it will manually open its distribution line?
It seems like all the lever does is unscrew the servo by about a 1/4 turn - is that the idea that the servo unscrews and the space allows the valve to open under spring pressure?
Again, that you all for the assistance!

yes, loosening the solenoid releases enough pressure for the valve to activate.
