Head missing.

I had a system installed 3 years ago. I've noticed the last two years part of my patio has been sinking. I repaired it both times. While planting an annual along my privacy fence I came across a sprinkler hose. There was no head attached to it. I called the company and they replied someone must have removed it. There has been no work done anywhere near that hose. My question is, will the zone operate with a head missing. I didn't know for sure if the hose was for the sprinklers until I turned the system on and water was pouring out. I am sure that is the reason for my patio collapse. The people that did the install said the zone would not work without the head or if it did the pressure would be insufficient.
