Enjoy the 3 gallons per minute. That gets you one hose-end sprinkler. It would cost you at least a hundred dollars to upgrade that, once you have to buy larger-diameter hoses.

Low Flow Rate Issue

Hi All,

For years, we've been watering our yard manually using a garden hose connected to the outdoor faucet. I recently upgraded the outdoor faucet to be a frost free anti siphon and changed the copper pipe behind it as well. There was a slight dent in it and so I thought it may be causing low flow rate. But the flow rate changed very little. I'm getting 80 psi and 3.2 gallons per minute at the outside faucet, which seems terrible for using with a sprinkler system. The outdoor faucet is connected via a 1/2 inch copper pipe. Not that I'm saying I would connect it to the outside faucet, but the flow in our house seems really small to me.

My question is, is the low flow rate due to 1/2 inch pipe? Right after the water meter, the pipe size is 3/4 inch, and then it shifts to 1/2 inch for the outside faucet and 1/2 inch for the rest of the house. If I tap into the 3/4 inch pipe, can I expect a better flow rate, perhaps 5+ gallons per minute with perhaps a decrease in pressure.

Any thoughts on this would be really helpful.
